WASHINGTON — NAB President and CEO Gordon Smith issued a statement today upon learning of the death of former FCC Commissioner Jim Quello, who served at the Commission for more than two decades and was acting chairman of the agency in 1993.
“NAB mourns the passing of Jim Quello, who was a war hero, a friend to free and local broadcasting, and an extraordinarily bipartisan public servant during a remarkable 24 years at the FCC,” said Smith. “We have lost an American original.”
Quello died at the age of 95 surrounded by family at his Alexandria, VA home. Prior to joining the FCC, Quello worked in radio in Detroit, including a lengthy stint at WJR as president and general manager. He was the winner of the NAB’s Distinguished Service Award in 1994.
