Alleged Killer of Two Texas Clerks Faces Justice

Incident Overview

Two convenience store clerks were murdered late last week in North Texas, and police have identified one man as the suspect responsible for both killings. The suspect is currently in custody.

Suspect Details

The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Devonte Matthis, is in the Dallas County Jail. He is accused of committing two separate murders at different gas stations in Dallas and Mesquite.

First Murder: Dallas Incident

The first incident occurred at a Dallas Fox gas station convenience store, resulting in the death of 32-year-old Gopi Krishna Dasari. Dasari, who had been in the United States for only eight months, was reportedly a husband and father. The suspect entered the store, approached the counter, and shot Dasari, who later died from his injuries.

Second Murder: Mesquite Incident

The second murder took place at the Family Stop Food Store Number One on Bruton Road in Mesquite on June 20th, just before midnight. The victim, 60-year-old Mohammed Hussain, was working the night shift when the suspect entered the store, fired multiple shots, and stole items. Hussain, a Carrollton resident, died at the scene.

Arrest and Evidence

Mesquite police were able to identify the suspect’s vehicle through surveillance footage. The description was shared with patrol officers, who spotted the car about 20 minutes after the second murder. A vehicle pursuit ensued, leading to Matthis’s arrest. Items found in the vehicle connected him to both murders.

Charges and Bond

Devonte Matthis is charged with capital murder and is being held under a $7.5 million bond. The swift actions of the police and the use of surveillance footage were crucial in apprehending the suspect and ensuring justice for the victims.
