Madonna just turned a club date into a release strategy, and publishers, songwriters, and rights holders should pay attention: a new track from her upcoming Confessions II era surfaced in public before the album’s street date, with Martin Garrix handling the reveal in Brooklyn. “Bizarre” made its surprise debut at Barclays Center on Saturday night, giving fans their first listen while also building momentum for Madonna’s imminent July 3 album release.
Garrix turns Barclays Center into a Madonna preview
Garrix played “Bizarre” during his performance at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on June 13, setting the song to a pulsing dance beat and a light show in pink and purple. The visual palette matched what appears to be the Confessions II era’s color scheme. Garrix’s show was the third of three nights at Barclays on his Americas Tour.
On Sunday evening, Garrix posted a video on Instagram featuring the song preview from the concert. Madonna is heard singing on the hook: “Who knew love could be so bizarre? Only love could be so bizarre.”
‘Bizarre’ becomes the fourth track teased from Confessions II
“Bizarre” is track 10 on Madonna’s 16-song Confessions II collection and the fourth song to be teased ahead of release. She previously shared album opener “I Feel So Free,” the Sabrina Carpenter collaboration “Bring Your Love,” and “Love Sensation,” which arrived in early June.
Confessions II is the sequel to 2005’s Confessions on a Dance Floor. It reunites Madonna with producer Stuart Price and marks her first album since returning to Warner Records. It is also her first new album in several years, following 2019’s Madame X, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
Madonna keeps the rollout tied to live moments
The Brooklyn debut follows Madonna’s recent Confessions II – The Film rollout, which premiered at Tribeca Festival in New York City and is now available to watch on YouTube. In early June, she also staged a surprise pop-up show in Times Square for Pride Month, marking the official launch of the new venue The Square on Broadway and 47th Street.
What to watch next: the July 3 street date for Confessions II, and whether Madonna continues using live events and public surprises to introduce more of the album before release.
