Chicago Mourns House Legend Andre Harris, Celebrates Frankie Knuckles

On a beautiful 82 degree day in the scenic Millenium Park located in downtown Chicago, thousands of people showed up to pay tribute to the legendary House music aficionado, Frankie Knuckles. With music, nostalgia, and love in air, Chicago House heads seemed to be embracing the groove while simultaneously mourning the loss of another House music legend. Radio Facts is sad to report the passing of House music icon, Andre Harris.

Andre was a fixture on the House Music scene in Chicago back in the 90’s when the genre was at its height in the city . His track ‘Ain’t It A Groove (Dub)’ was featured on Mark Grant’s classic 1997 mix A Taste of Cajual; more recently, his first single, ‘I Can’t Take It’, appeared on Strut’s Cajual Records retrospective Only 4 U. Andre Harris released some of his music via Large Records and was a huge part of the labels success.

Large Records founder Jeff Craven has issued a statement on Harris’ passing via 5Chicago:
On behalf of myself, Roy Davis Jr, Mark Grant and the Harris family, it brings me great sorrow to officially announce that last week we lost a truly great spirit and wonderful artist Andre Harris. We want to honor Andre’s musical and artistic legacy by informing his fans of this tragic news yet we also ask that the privacy of his family is respected during their time of grief. Andre had a long and distinguished career as both a dj and producer appearing on labels such as Cajual, Estereo, Large and his own imprint Innate Soul over the last 20 years.

The Harris family is making arrangements for a memorial service and we will announce those details shortly. Andre always met his fans, friends and family with a trademark smile and enormous good will and encouragement. It is our hope that even in our sadness we celebrate his amazing life and career with the same kind of joy that Andre shared with all of us.

Sincerely,
-Jeff Craven
-Roy Davis Jr.
-Mark Grant
