LA Deputies Target Activist Exposing Corruption

sheriff-s-department”>Activist Monitored and Threatened by LA Sheriff’s Department

An activist in Los Angeles has been targeted by the LA County Sheriff’s Department after she exposed the existence and activities of deputy gangs within the department. This information was revealed through about 800 pages of emails obtained by the activist through a lawsuit.

Social Media Surveillance and Personal Dossiers

The emails indicate that the Sheriff’s Department directed its employees to monitor the activist’s social media accounts. Additionally, the department created a crime report labeling her as a suspicious person and shared her information with the unit responsible for monitoring license plates. Several accounts that promoted her work were also marked for monitoring. A 29-page dossier was compiled on at least one activist who supported her work, including sensitive personal information such as Social Security numbers, home addresses, and personal phone numbers.

Official Denial and Contradiction

In a statement, the Sheriff’s Department denied monitoring the activist’s social media accounts but admitted that their employees read news articles and social media posts from various sources to serve the community better. The department did not respond to questions about the specifics contained in the emails.

Death Threats and Safety Concerns

Since reporting on the deputy gangs, the activist has received numerous death threats. Some of these threats have been explicit and suggest a possible connection to the Sheriff’s Department. The activist’s work has brought significant risks to her safety, highlighting the dangers faced by those who expose corruption within law enforcement agencies.

Historical Context and Current Implications

The commentary on the video ties the current actions of the Sheriff’s Department to the historical origins of police forces in the United States, which were originally formed to catch runaway slaves. It suggests that the purpose and methods of law enforcement have not significantly changed and continue to perpetuate systemic issues.

Support for the Activist

Despite the dangers, the activist continues her work to expose corruption within the LA County Sheriff’s Department. The video calls for support for individuals like her who risk their safety to uncover and report on such issues.
