Federal Lawsuit Targets Rapper Over Illegal Gambling

Big names in hot water again. Federal lawsuit claims illegal gambling schemes and streaming fraud.

A federal class action lawsuit has been filed under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, targeting an online gambling platform called Stake along with a high-profile rapper. The suit alleges that both are involved in promoting illegal gambling activities and coordinating fraudulent practices that manipulate music streaming metrics.

The complaint asserts that Stake operates as an illegal online casino, disguised as a sweepstakes platform. It goes further to claim that the rapper in question has been promoting the service and engaging in financial schemes intended to artificially inflate streaming numbers. Specifically, the lawsuit alleges that the rapper utilized Stake to boost play counts for his music on major streaming platforms such as Spotify, ultimately misleading listeners and distorting recommendation algorithms.

According to the filing, the rapper, alongside individuals identified as Ross and Nguyen, allegedly exploited Stake’s “Tipping” feature to move money among themselves. Plaintiffs describe this tipping system as an unregulated financial transmission mechanism, operating beyond the watchful eye of financial authorities. It’s claimed that through this feature, the defendants funded automated bots and streaming farms aimed at generating false streams of the rapper’s music.

The lawsuit suggests that these fraudulent activities were designed to undermine competitors, mislead music executives, and manipulate essential industry metrics that determine chart performance and playlist placements. Central to the allegations is the assertion that the rapper acted both directly and through co-conspirators who willingly participated in the scheme.

It’s important to note that the complaint does not constitute a legal ruling, and the allegations remain unproven in court. As of now, neither the rapper nor Stake has issued a public response to the lawsuit.

This case highlights the growing scrutiny surrounding celebrity endorsements in gambling and raises questions about the integrity of streaming data within the music industry. Such issues have garnered increasing attention from regulators and consumer advocacy groups alike.
