This year, the spotlight won’t grace Philadelphia’s iconic Made In America main stage. In an unexpected turn of events, the 2023 edition of the festival has been canceled due to what’s being referred to as “severe circumstances.”

The news left fans and artists disappointed, as the festival had promised a star-studded lineup that included the likes of Metro Boomin, Ice Spice, Coi Leray, Latto, Doechii, Mase, and Cam’ron. The headlining slots were reserved for none other than SZA and Lizzo.

However, a cloud of controversy surrounds Lizzo. Amid the anticipation for her performance, allegations have surfaced regarding the mistreatment of her former dancers, with claims of weight-shaming and sexual harassment. The lawsuit, filed against Lizzo, her production company, and another member of her dance team, has put the singer in a difficult spot. While Lizzo has denied these allegations, they have cast a shadow over her image.

It remains unclear whether this controversy played a role in the festival’s cancelation, but the announcement was accompanied by a statement from the organizers. The statement cited “severe circumstances outside of production control” as the reason behind the decision to cancel. The organizers emphasized that the choice was not taken lightly and was made after extensive deliberation.

Despite this setback, the organizers are determined to bring back the Made In America experience to Philadelphia in the following year. They have also assured ticket holders that refunds will be issued for their purchased tickets.

As the festival grounds remain empty this year, the echoes of what could have been linger in the air. The cancellation is a reminder of the unpredictable nature of live events and the challenges that artists and organizers face. While the stage remains silent this time around, the hope and excitement for the return of Made In America in the future keep the spirit of music alive.
