Chicago witnessed a tragic weekend as gunfire erupted in various neighborhoods, leaving at least seven people dead and 26 others injured.
On Sunday afternoon, a tragic incident occurred in West Pullman on the Far South Side. Two teenagers, aged 17 and 18, were shot, one of them fatally, while trying to purchase a pair of shoes from a social media seller.
According to police, the teens met with the seller in a parked car on South State Street, where the seller took the money and then opened fire, striking both of them. The 17-year-old boy was hit in the chest and later pronounced dead, while the 18-year-old was shot in the elbow and is currently in good condition at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
Later that evening, three more people were killed in separate incidents within minutes of each other in Gresham and Humboldt Park on the South and West Sides. A 35-year-old man was shot in the face and later died from his injuries, and two other individuals, whose ages are unknown, were also killed in the attacks.
In addition to these fatal shootings, several other incidents occurred over the weekend. A man was shot and killed while arguing with another person at a gathering in East Garfield Park, and a 25-year-old man was shot and killed inside a home in West Englewood. A 28-year-old man was also shot to death while walking in Belmont Cragin on the Northwest Side.
Two men were also seriously injured during an armed robbery in Princeton Park on the South Side, and a 13-year-old boy was wounded in Pocket Town on the South Side.
The Chicago Police Department is currently investigating these incidents and searching for suspects. The city’s residents are urging for an end to the violence and urging the community to come together to find solutions to the problem.
