Sony Music Publishing (SMP) has acquired a significant stake in Elements Music, a leading independent music publisher from Finland. This deal also includes Elements Music’s catalog of approximately 10,000 works, further strengthening SMP’s presence in the Finnish music scene.
As part of the agreement, SMP will collaborate with Elements to offer enhanced local support through SMP Scandinavia, while also providing access to SMP’s extensive global network, ensuring Finnish music creators receive international exposure and resources.
The founders of Elements Music, Tommi Tuomainen and Eero Tolppanen, expressed their enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasizing its importance for the future of Finnish music.
They highlighted that the rapidly changing landscape of music usage, driven by artificial intelligence and global platforms, makes it crucial for creators to have strong allies who understand and defend their rights. They also noted that this partnership would better protect the interests of Finnish music creators.
Johnny Tennander, Managing Director of SMP Scandinavia, praised the success of Elements Music and its founders, acknowledging the strong foundation they’ve built in Finland. He expressed excitement about the collaboration, seeing it as a natural next step in their long-standing relationship.
Guy Henderson, President of International at SMP, echoed Tennander’s sentiments, noting that with Elements Music’s established credibility and creativity in Finland, combined with SMP’s global reach, the collaboration would help grow and nurture the careers of Finnish songwriters both locally and internationally.
Founded in 2005, Elements Music is one of the most respected copyright companies in Northern Europe, representing notable Finnish songwriters and music legends like Axel Ehnstrom, Johannes Brotherus (KUUMAA), OLGA, Jonas Olsson, Timo Kiiskinen, and others.
The catalog also includes iconic Finnish acts such as Eppu Normaali, Yö, and Popeda. Despite the new partnership, Elements Music will continue its operations as usual, with the added benefit of SMP’s broader support.
