2025’s streaming numbers are off the charts, hitting the trillions as genres like rock and gospel surge. Who said the industry was stagnant?
In 2025, global music streaming reached unprecedented heights, crossing the 5.1 trillion mark, a 9.6% increase from the previous year, as reported by Luminate’s Year-End Report. This remarkable growth has shattered records previously held in 2024, which had seen the highest single-year streaming numbers up until this point.
The United States contributed significantly to this global trend, with streams climbing 4.6% to reach 1.4 trillion. Interestingly, the U.S. audience has shown a notable preference for older tracks, as only 43% of the total streams were songs released within the last five years. It seems classics—like “Gasolina”—are far from fading away.
However, recent music has found its audience as well. Christian and gospel music saw an impressive 18.5% boost in streaming popularity among U.S. listeners, reflecting a growing trend in faith-based genres. This rise underscores a blossoming interest in newer offerings within these categories.
Rock music also took the spotlight with a surprising 6.4% increase in streaming numbers, proving its resilience in a time when many speculate its decline. Despite ongoing debates about its relevance, rock had the second-highest count of new streams in 2025. Bands like Geese topped year-end lists, while new albums from artists such as Maruja and Hayley Williams showcased the genre’s ongoing evolution.
On another front, Latin music thrived thanks to the influence of Bad Bunny, whose presence in the industry continues to expand. His recent album, Debí Tirar Más Fotos, has amassed over 5.3 billion on-demand streams, contributing significantly to a 5.2% increase in the Latin genre’s overall streaming numbers. This surge not only highlights Bad Bunny’s stardom but also signals a ripe opportunity for other artists in the genre, such as Pitbull.
As the music streaming market continues to evolve, the data makes it clear that both traditional and contemporary genres are capturing listeners’ hearts, establishing an exciting future for the industry.
