TikTok & Apple Music Partner for Better Streaming

TikTok has introduced a new feature that allows users in select countries to stream full-length songs directly within the app, provided they are subscribers to Apple Music. This integration, currently in beta testing, aims to enhance music discovery on TikTok by enabling users to play complete tracks without navigating away from the platform.

The ‘Play Full Song’ feature adds a button that activates a full-screen player, displaying the content as sourced from Apple Music. This marks an evolution from TikTok’s previous ‘Add to Music App’ function, which required users to switch to their preferred streaming service to access full tracks. The new feature leverages Apple’s MusicKit APIs, which facilitates royalty generation for rights holders similarly to streams within Apple Music’s own platform.

While the feature is currently limited to Apple Music, TikTok has indicated potential for future collaborations with other streaming services, similar to its existing integration with various platforms through the ‘Add to Music App’ feature. This strategic move aligns with TikTok’s ongoing efforts to provide tangible value to the music industry and artists, beyond mere track discovery.

In addition to the ‘Play Full Song’ feature, TikTok has also launched a beta version of ‘Listening Party,’ allowing artists to host album listening events for fans. Participants can engage in chat discussions while listening to the album together. Non-subscribers can join the conversation and listen to clips but will not have access to full tracks. The feature is currently being tested within the iOS version of TikTok, with plans for potential future expansions.
