Jay Gilbert Exits Music Biz Podcast After 500 Episodes

Jay Gilbert has announced his departure as cohost of the Music Biz Weekly podcast after reaching a milestone of 500 episodes. Mike Brandvold, the original host who launched the podcast in 2011, will continue to lead the show moving forward.

Both Gilbert and Brandvold have extensive backgrounds in music marketing, providing listeners with valuable insights and updates on industry trends, tools, and strategies throughout the podcast’s run. Gilbert’s exit comes on the heels of his conclusion of the Billboard Behind the Setlist podcast and a reduction in his role at Label Logic, the firm he co-founded.

This transition allows Gilbert to focus on his work with college-level music business programs, targeted consulting, and his weekly newsletter and podcast, Your Morning Coffee. The changes signify a new chapter for both Gilbert and the Music Biz Weekly podcast.

Brandvold has expressed his commitment to the podcast’s future, noting that it will continue to evolve while maintaining its core mission of supporting DIY and developing artists. As the podcast approaches its 15th anniversary in 2026, Brandvold remains enthusiastic about its direction and ongoing relevance in the music industry.
