Revisiting the Tom Joyner Foundation Fantastic Voyage 2015
Revisiting the past, we remember the exhilarating 2015 edition of the Tom Joyner Foundation Fantastic Voyage presented by Ford. The voyage was a successful fundraising event that united nearly 60 entertainers and sailed in the name of raising money for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The voyage, hosted by renowned radio personality and philanthropist Tom Joyner, broke records as the largest music cruise of its kind in 2015.
With a star-studded line-up featuring R. Kelly, Jennifer Hudson, Earth Wind & Fire, TLC, LL Cool J featuring DJ Z-Trip, and Fantasia, the voyage offered a slice of musical heaven for the attendees. The concerts and entertainment also expanded to include Fantastic ’90s with New Jack Swing from Teddy Riley, Fantastic Motown with The Jacksons, and The Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards.
Supporting HBCUs and Engaging the African American Audience
The Fantastic Voyage took place on Carnival Breeze, departing from Miami and making stops at the Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands; Montego Bay, Jamaica; and Mahogany Bay, Isla Roatan. The voyage not only served as a platform for entertainment but also made a significant impact by raising money to help HBCUs.
As the title sponsor, Ford Motor Company continued to back the initiative, displaying two vehicles on the ship and even giving away a vehicle to one lucky Tom Joyner Morning Show listener. The event attracted active sponsors and advertisers, including Carnival Cruise Lines, Crest Pro-Health, Denny’s, The Home Depot, Sundial Brands’ Shea Moisture, NCIS: Los Angeles on CBS, and Walmart.
On-going Impact and Legacy
Starting its annual voyage to raise money for HBCUs in 1999, The Tom Joyner Foundation Fantastic Voyage stands as an example of philanthropy in fun and uplifting environment. It remains the only charter that promotes philanthropy whilst providing an unforgettable experience for its attendees.
