After careful consideration, and due to circumstances beyond our control, the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame (BMEWOF) has made the difficult but necessary decision to postpone its 2026 induction ceremony, originally scheduled to take place on Monday, June 1, 2026, marking the 5th anniversary of the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame. The planned induction was set to honor extraordinary figures including the Honorable Maynard H. Jackson, Ludacris, Organized Noize, Bishop Paul S. Morton, Davido and the late Jack “The Rapper” Gibson along with other distinguished honorees and families.

This decision comes as a direct result of security fencing and related infrastructure installed around Mercedes-Benz Stadium in preparation for the FIFA World Cup events taking place beginning June 5th. To present this ceremony under compromised conditions would not be respectful to the honorees, their families, the public, the City of Atlanta, or the monument itself. The City of Atlanta had permitted the induction ceremony, including the necessary street closures and public event planning. However, only recently were the co-founders of BMEWOF made aware that FIFA-related security fencing would be installed weeks in advance of the World Cup events.
BMEWOF will announce a new induction and ceremony date later in 2026 that allows the ceremony to be presented at the level of dignity, visibility, and excellence it deserves.
BMEWOF co-founder, Catherine Brewton, shares, “While we fully recognize and respect the global importance of FIFA, the World Cup, and Atlanta’s role on the international stage, the timing and placement of this fencing has created an uncompromising situation for the Walk of Fame induction, and now results in physical damage to the historic emblems.”
“The Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame is not simply an event site. It is a permanent cultural monument placed into the public ground of Atlanta, Georgia, on the renowned MLK Jr. Drive, It is sacred cultural space — created to honor the artists, executives, producers, entertainers, civic leaders, and visionaries whose contributions have shaped music, entertainment, arts, culture, and the world,” shares, BMEWOF co-founder, Michael Mauldin.
