In a recent announcement, Spotify revealed that it disbursed approximately AUD $330 million (around USD $212.7 million) to music rightsholders in Australia during 2025, marking a 7% increase compared to the previous year. This financial commitment underscores Spotify’s ongoing support for the local music industry, as it continues to expand its influence in the Australian market.
Globally, Spotify reported that it allocated over $11 billion to the music industry in 2025, highlighting its significant role in the global music ecosystem. The Australian market data indicates a growing trend, with more than 370 local artists now earning over AUD $100,000 (USD $64,500) annually from the platform, a number that has doubled since 2017. This growth reflects the increasing popularity and financial viability of Australian artists on the streaming service.
Additionally, Australian fans streamed local artists a staggering 223 million more times in 2025 compared to the previous year. This surge in streaming activity demonstrates the strong connection between Australian listeners and their homegrown talent. Furthermore, Australian artists were discovered by first-time listeners globally 2.7 billion times last year, showcasing the international reach of the country’s music scene.
Spotify also noted that nearly half of Australia’s population, which stood at 27.6 million as of June 2025, actively uses the platform. The company described Australian users as some of its most engaged listeners worldwide. To further bolster its support for local talent, Spotify announced a new multi-year partnership with The Push, a leading youth music organization in Australia, committing AUD $200,000 (USD $128,900) to help develop emerging artists.
This partnership is part of Spotify’s broader strategy to nurture Australian music, which includes initiatives like RADAR and EQUAL. The platform also invests in local playlists such as Hot Hits Australia and New Music Friday, ensuring that Australian artists receive the exposure they deserve. Moreover, Spotify’s collaboration with the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) as the official partner of the ARIA Awards starting in 2025 further solidifies its commitment to the local music industry.
