Orrico’s going after the industry that turned a blind eye while she was used as a teen artist. It’s a stark reminder of the darker side of the business.
Stacie Orrico, who launched her music career at just 14, has come forward with serious allegations against her former manager and several major music industry players. The 39-year-old singer is taking legal action against Britt Haim, who she claims assaulted her, along with Universal Music Group, ForeFront Records, and others, alleging gender violence, negligence, and sexual battery.
Orrico has begun the process of seeking justice for the traumatic experiences she faced as a child artist. In her lawsuit, she cites incidents of abuse that she only fully understood as sexual exploitation in hindsight. The emotional toll of these experiences has shaped her perspective on the industry and prompted her to seek accountability from those who she believes failed to protect her during her formative years.
The legal filing paints a disturbing picture of a young girl with dreams of becoming a singer, only to find herself in a tumultuous environment where her safety was ignored. The lawsuit states, “Plaintiff Stacie Joy Orrico was an innocent and joyful child, full of dreams, one of which was to become a singer. That dream — and her childhood, adolescence, and entire life — were permanently threatened and profoundly altered by the trauma she endured as a result of sexual abuse and exploitation while she was a minor child and a professional musical artist under Defendants’ control, supervision, and authority.” This statement highlights the gravity of her allegations and the emotional scars they left behind.
At this stage, the parties named in the lawsuit have yet to respond to these allegations. The case is expected to spark discussions about the treatment of young artists in the music industry and the responsibilities of record labels and management in safeguarding their interests.
