In under 24 hours, Jay-Z snagged 1.5 million followers on Instagram, and then…
…his account was deactivated. The media proprietor joined Instagram on November 2nd and quite naturally, followed his mega superstar wife, Beyonce. She returned the follow- before this, her following count has been 0 since 2012.
However, this isn’t the first time Jay-Z opened an Instagram account. According to Daily News, six years ago, the multi-Grammy award-winning rapper opened an Instagram account under the handle @hovsince96. His first and final post was a tribute to the late Michael Jackson’s birthday. The account was deactivated a little over 12 hours later.
Although he’s absent on the Instauniverse, Jay-Z has had a Twitter account since 2008. With only 269 sporadic tweets, Jay recently added a tweet to add on to his shoutouts on Sunday, October 31, after his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
This time around on Instagram, the rapper turned media mogul uploaded just one post that was a movie poster of The Harder They Fall. The American western film is a star-studded all-black cast including, Regina King, Idris Elba, and Zazie Beetz. Produced by Jay-Z, The Harder They Fall was directed by Jeymes Samuel who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jonathan Majors.
Many have speculated that the sole reason for his Instagram pop-up was to promote and shed a broader light on his film. The Harder They Fall was released in limited theaters on October 22nd and has been streaming on Netflix since November 3rd.
