Griselda Records Producer DJ Shay Dead at Age 48

2020 claims another talented soul. DJ Shay, who founded the Buff City label and worked with Westside Gunn,, Benny the Butcher, Conway the Machine, and several artists on Griselda Records artists like Benny’s Black Soprano Family group has died. Shay was only 48 years old at the time of his unfortunate death.

Griselda Records posted the following message on IG in support of their brother.

Born Demetrius Chawton Robinson, DJ Shay began blessing the 1’s and 2’s at local events in Buffalo at the age of 10 after receiving a turntable for Christmas. He would later begin making beats and working with the early-’90s hip-hop group Brother/hood Nation. At the end of the decade, he launched a series of compilation albums called Unsigned City, which put several Buffalo artists on the map.

Artist, Westside Gunn also posted a farewell message on his IG as well.
