Their catalog also includes songs from the billion-streamed Bibi & Tina film franchise and hit musicals staged at Berlins Theater des Westens, with their combined streaming totals approaching 3 billion.

Plate and Sommers musical legacy spans chart-topping singles, platinum albums, and socially-conscious pop anthems that have defined the German pop landscape since the early ’90s. As Rosenstolz, they achieved multiple No.1 albums, selling over 4 million records in Germany alone.

Their impact goes beyond their own musical outputPlate and Sommer also penned Sarah Connors 2015 million-selling album Muttersprache, solidifying their status as one of Germanys most versatile and successful songwriting duos.

Though the financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, the sale will provide Plate and Sommer with the means to further invest in their work as composers and producers for the stage. Their upcoming original musical, Wir sind am Leben, set in 1990s Berlin, is one of several projects they plan to develop with the support of the sale.

As artistic directors at Berlins iconic Theater des Westens, theyve already produced multiple hit musicals, including Kudamm 56, Kudamm 59, Romeo & Julia Liebe ist alles, and Die Amme, which have drawn millions of visitors.

For umn Entertainment co-founders Dominique Casimir, Maximilian Kolb, and Justus Haerder, the acquisition marks a significant partnership. They expressed pride in working with Kobalt to preserve and develop Plate and Sommers catalog, ensuring it remains relevant for future generations.

Kobalt CEO Laurent Hubert echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the company’s commitment to providing transparent, writer-friendly administration and safeguarding the cultural legacy of these timeless songs.

In a statement, Plate and Sommer reflected on the deal as a new beginning, freeing them to focus more on their theater projects while expressing gratitude to both umn and Kobalt for their trust in preserving their music.
