Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Charlie Webster-hosted True Crime Series “Surviving El Chapo: The Twins Who Brought Down A Drug Lord” Honored with a Bronze Award in the Serialized Podcast Category

Lionsgate Sound, the audio division of global content leader Lionsgate, announced today that its podcasts Surviving El Chapo: The Twins Who Brought Down A Drug Lord and Died and Survived have won two New York Festivals Radio Awards. The awards were announced during the New York Festival’s 2023 Storytellers Gala, which took place virtually on Tuesday, April 18.

Died and Survived was honored with a Gold Award in the Personal Lives Podcast category for “Ep 2: The Summer of 2016 (The End of Old Me).” The episode chronicles the profound near-death experience of journalist and broadcaster Charlie Webster, who shares vivid memories of being in a coma while doctors worked tirelessly to save her and family gathered to await her fate, opening up a greater conversation about the afterlife.

Surviving El Chapo: The Twins Who Brought Down A Drug Lord was honored with a Bronze Award in the Serialized Podcast category. Hosted by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Charlie Webster, Surviving El Chapo tells the story of how Chicago-born identical twins Jay and Peter Flores went from dealing $2 billion worth of drugs as North America’s most successful cocaine traffickers, to government informants who brought down the infamous drug lord “El Chapo.” Lauded by The Guardian as “a thrilling, high-wire tale,” the series is also a finalist for Banff’s 2023 Rockie Awards International Program Competition.

The New York Festivals Radio Awards 65-year legacy provides a showcase to celebrate world-class storytellers from around the globe. Since 1957 the competition has celebrated innovation and excellence in broadcast audio content across all genres and platforms keeping pace with industry developments and global trends.
