A 4-year-old boy was found wandering the street after taking his mother’s car for a joyride and crashing it into two parked vehicles.
Police said on Instagram that the tiny joyrider woke up in Utrecht on Saturday, and after grabbing his mother’s keys, he left “to go for a drive” after his dad went to work.
In reference to the 2021 Belgian-Dutch Formula One world champ, law enforcement titled the post “New Max Verstappen discovered in Overvecht.”
Police added, “this mini boy-racer’s adventure ended with a fizzle.”
The boy caught the attention of passersby after they spotted the boy wandering through the streets alone in the cold. Out of concern for the child, the police were called, reported the BBC.
Soon, a car was reported abandoned nearby after striking two parked vehicles. The vehicle was registered to the boy’s mother, police determined.
“She explained that her son was ‘highly enterprising,'” police said, according to the Guardian.
“She spoke to the child on the phone, and we saw him imitate a collision and make a steering movement with his hands. This made us suspect he might have been driving,” police added.
The boy and his mother were taken to the abandoned car by police. Later at the scene, they were joined by the child’s father.
“At the car, we asked the child if he could show us how it worked,” Utrecht police said on Instagram.
“He opened the car and put the key in the ignition. He started the car, moved his left foot to the clutch, and hit the accelerator,” they added.
Before the child was united with his mother, he was given a teddy bear and hot chocolate at the police station.
