TYCHO & rum.gold UNVEIL “RUN AWAY”
2x GRAMMY� Award�nominated electronic artist Tycho and acclaimed R&B singer-songwriter rum.gold have announced the release of a new collaboration. “Run Away” is available now via Mom + Pop Music/Ninja Tune; an official visualizer is streaming now at YouTube.
“Run Away” is a step into bold new territory for both artists, seamlessly blending the hallmarks of Tycho’s music � detailed arrangements, crisp production and skittering electronics � with rum.gold’s soulful vocals and emotionally resonant lyrics. Tycho’s first-ever collaboration with a male vocalist, the track showcases the two musicians’ obvious chemistry, despite having never worked together in person thus far (the former is based in San Francisco, the latter in Brooklyn).
‘Run Away’ marks the first new original music from Tycho since the February release of SIMULCAST, an instrumental companion record to last year’s GRAMMY� Award-nominated WEATHER, as well the first new music from rum.gold since the Juneteenth release of his track ‘Fix Me,’ inspired by the current movement for social change in the United States and hailed as “mesmerizing” by The Line of Best Fit.
“With “Run Away,’ I wanted to take new musical ideas and wrap them in the familiar sonics and textures of my sound,” says Tycho mastermind Scott Hansen. “Working with rum.gold’s voice was really freeing in that it provided the contrast needed to push things into a different emotional space.”
“‘Run Away’ was fun to write,” says rum.gold, “not only because this isn’t my usual style of writing but also because I got to play a different character other than myself. It’s a very selfish track while also being apologetic and reflective at the same time.”
