Deezer Rolls Out Ai Playlist Detector Across 20 Platforms

Deezer has launched a free AI music detector that could become a fast check on synthetic tracks for publishers, rights holders, and streaming users alike. The tool lets listeners see whether music in their playlists includes AI-generated material, and Deezer says it works across playlists from 20 streaming platforms.

Free tool targets AI tracks in user playlists

The new detector is available in 27 languages and is described by Deezer as more than 99 per cent accurate. Deezer says it identifies “specific artifacts” left behind by AI software, and it can be used on playlists from services including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music and Soundcloud.

Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier said the company has been “at the forefront of transparency in music streaming” after detecting and tagging AI-generated music over the past year and a half. He added that Deezer decided to make the tool available so anyone can check whether their playlists include synthetic music, regardless of platform.

Deezer says listener demand is already there

Lanternier also said that a vast majority of people want to know if AI music is being recommended to them, and that nearly half of users joining Deezer from another platform have AI tracks in their playlists. Deezer said its own research shows that 43 per cent of users who joined from other streaming services had AI-generated music in their playlists, while 80 per cent of users want AI-generated tracks to be labelled as such.

The company also said last month that 44 per cent of the music now uploaded to its platform is AI-generated, with roughly 75,000 such tracks added per day. Deezer said that figure was up from 28 per cent last September and 10 per cent in January last year.

What this means for streaming platforms next

A Deezer study last November found that 97 per cent of people “can’t tell the difference” between real and AI music. Deezer’s new detector is now available for playlists across multiple major platforms, and the company says it is intended to give listeners a clearer way to identify synthetic material in what they hear.
