Prince’s estate is turning long-shelved recordings into a fresh rights and revenue moment with the announcement of Timeless, a 10-song compilation built entirely from unreleased vault material. For publishers, labels and rights holders, the release signals how carefully curated catalog can still drive attention across streaming and physical formats.

Prince estate unveils first look at ‘Timeless’
The album, titled Timeless, will collect 10 songs from across Prince’s four-decade career, all carefully curated by the Prince estate and never before released. It is set for release on August 28 via Legacy Recordings and will be available on streaming platforms as well as multiple physical formats, including purple marble vinyl, black vinyl and CD.
The project is being released in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of Prince’s death from an accidental fentanyl overdose at the age of 57. The recordings span 1977 through 2016, and the set includes With This Tear, which was shared in April on the exact anniversary of his passing.
‘Stone’ becomes the second preview from the vault
The estate has now released Stone as the second song from Timeless. Recorded in spring 1995, the track was written by Sandra St. Victor, Tom Hammer and Jules Van Even.
The article describes Stone as a demonstration of Prince’s tight funk sound, with falsetto vocals over an infectious chorus. The first preview from the project was With This Tear.
Prince Celebration Week adds a public-facing push
The announcement lands during Prince Celebration Week, which runs from June 1 to 7 and was announced by Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey. The city’s skyline will be illuminated in purple on Saturday, June 6, and there are listening sessions, archival presentations and other events taking place all week at Paisley Park and downtown Minneapolis.
The tracklist for Timeless includes I Am You, Tick Tick Bang, Heaven, I Wonder, With This Tear, Stone, Calabama, The Guilty Ones, Bestest Friend and How Come You Don’t Call Me Anymore? (Live).
Estate control stays central to the rollout
The project arrives after Prince’s estate refused to allow his music to be used in the new Melania documentary. Producer Marc Beckman said a lawyer managing the estate contacted him and stated that Prince would never want his song associated with Donald Trump.
What to watch next: the August 28 release of Timeless, how the estate positions the full 10-track package, and whether the Prince Celebration Week activity drives more attention to the vault rollout.
