ASCAP Enhances Member Benefits with Telehealth Services

ASCAP has announced a significant enhancement to its member benefits through a new partnership with MDLIVE, aimed at addressing the unique health challenges faced by music creators. This telehealth service offers ASCAP members 24/7 access to board-certified doctors and mental health counselors, enabling them to receive medical care without the constraints of traditional office hours. Whether dealing with minor ailments on tour or seeking mental health support, members can now access consultations via phone or video at a reduced cost.

The introduction of MDLIVE builds on ASCAP’s existing Wellness Program, which was initiated in 2019 to tackle the prevalent issues of depression, anxiety, and physical strain within the music community. This integration signifies a strategic move to create a comprehensive wellness ecosystem that bridges the gap between general wellness and healthcare.

In addition to the MDLIVE services, ASCAP’s Wellness Program includes a variety of benefits such as discounted online therapy through BetterHelp, subscription discounts for meditation and sleep support via Calm, and access to Stride Health, which aids freelancers in finding affordable health insurance options. These offerings are designed to promote mental and physical well-being among music creators.

ASCAP’s initiative reflects a broader trend within the industry, as other organizations, including Spotify, also enhance their support for creators. Spotify’s Heart & Soul initiative, in collaboration with Backline, has introduced a 24/7 mental health and crisis support line specifically tailored for the music community. Such efforts are contributing to a shift from the traditional ‘starving artist’ narrative to a more sustainable model that emphasizes support and well-being for creators.
