Hunter Herring didn’t get to say goodbye.
The afternoon drive time DJ for WOMG-FM Oldies 103.1 was laid off recently after 19 years at the station. Herring, who’s been in broadcasting in the Carolinas for 40 years, just wanted to thank his listeners one last time.
“I would’ve liked to have left on better circumstances,†he said. “As far as I know, it’s the economy. They’re just trying to cut back. They didn’t explain that much.â€
Herring is the second high-profile DJ let go by Citadel Broadcasting, which owns five stations in the Columbia market, including WTCB-FM, WNKT-FM, WLXC-FM and WISW-AM. He joins Tre Tailor, the midday host at WLXC whose departure was announced this week.
