WPGN is Offering Their First Contemporary Jazz Show on Their Gospel Network
Radio veteran and former host of 91.9FM WCLK’s Jazz It Up, Angela Greene has a new contemporary jazz show that has found a home in an unusual place, WPGN Radio Atlanta, which is a Gospel radio platform. The stakeholders of the Prayzefest Gospel Network have welcomed their first contemporary jazz show to their platform. The all-new Jazz Flavors will air Sundays from 12 p.m.- 2 p.m beginning July 26, 2020, offering listeners a musical treat.
“I asked my friend, Angela Greene to host a jazz show because first of all I absolutely love jazz and she is one of the best announcers out there. I truly believe the gospel audience and the jazz audiences collide musically at many points! Jazz Flavors will add just the right amount of salt and light for our listeners,” said Twanda Black, host of Good News Gospel.
The all new Jazz Flavors will be hosted by Greene who began her career in radio in 1986. She has worked at several radio stations in the Atlanta market including V-103, Kiss 104, and WSB-FM in addition to serving as the traffic anchor for now defunct nationally syndicated, Tom Joyner Morning Show. Greene is also a journalist, author, and education advocate. Ironically she began her radio career at WCLK when she was a college student. She returned in 2019 to host Jazz It Up before she created, wrote and produced the all new Jazz Flavors.
Her partner and curator is Craig “The Groovemaster” Roulhac. Roulhac is the creator of the extremely popular Spotify Contemporary Playlist group on Facebook. The group boasts over 300 members including music artist Bob James, Chieli Minucci, Jeff Kashiwa, and Ragan Whiteside. Roulhac creates a unique playlist that highlights various artists or music styles and being featured on that list is significant to many artists including Ragan Whiteside.
“It means a lot to be featured on Craig’s Spotify Playlist people have discovered my music from his playlist that had not previously heard of it. I am very honored to be represented. Craig has been a great supporter for a while and it’s great to see somebody keeping contemporary jazz alive,” said Ragan Whiteside.
“I think our new audience will be very receptive to the all new Jazz Flavors because although it is contemporary jazz, it is a different kind of contemporary jazz. Yes, there have been other radio shows with the same name, but they definitely do not have our same sound because I create the custom playlist for each show. That is why they call me the Groovemaster,” said Roulhac.
“I noticed Craig’s playlist on Facebook and I was blown away at his musical choices and his rhythmic playlist. His music choices are woven together in a beautiful tapestry of sounds. He was clearly born with a golden ear for music. I am just grateful he shared my vision for our show.” said Greene.
The first featured playlist is called Vibe Senisitivities and it features Al DeGregoris, Norman Brown, Pieces of a Dream, and Skinny Hightower.
