TAMPA, Fla. — A 26-year veteran of Tampa Fire Rescue was injured after a radio station stunt intended to illustrate the dangers of turkey frying went awry.

A van caught fire Friday in the parking lot of WFLZ radio when a host tried to fry a turkey inside the vehicle – and now the state Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

The stunt involved lowering a turkey by crane into a fryer inside the van. Online video showed the fryer had already set the van on fire before the turkey was lowered.

Firefighters knocked the flames down quickly, but an agency spokesman says one firefighter suffered a back injury after slipping and falling. Officials say a station staff member was also injured. That person's identity and condition were not immediately available.

The radio station didn't have permits or emergency crews stand ing by.
