Although numbers have risen significantly now, it was reported on May 19 that more than 1.5 million Americans were confirmed to have been infected by COVID-19, and more than 93,000 people had lost their lives. Data from various sources (states, federal government officials and various universities) indicate that African Americans make up about 13 percent of the U.S. population, yet they are 65 percent of all fatalities.
