Service Broadcasting owner Hymen Childs announced today that K104 Brand Manager and Program Director George “Geo” Cook now elevates to Director of Operations for the media company. Under a new three year deal, Cook expands his role to lead and develop the content, branding and programming for legendary Urban K104 (KKDA-104.5 FM), Urban AC Smooth R&B 105.7 (KRNB-105.7 FM), MyK104.com, KRNB.com and Service Broadcasting’s multiple platforms. He will retain his existing day-to-day PD duties for K104.
Childs commented, “Geo possesses a unique feel and understanding of pop culture, urban lifestyle and our formats that are unparalleled. Under his direction, K104 has achieved its highest ratings in PPM and our digital platforms have seen record-setting levels of engagement and growth. He has created amazing artist experiences and ‘live and local’ content for our listeners including DeDe in the Morning. Geo’s promotion is well-deserved.”
Cook said, “K104 and Smooth R&B 105.7 are two of the premiere hip-hop music and R&B platforms on the planet. I am ecstatic about this opportunity to build our brands and lead our talented team to further success and provide greater service to the fast-growing Dallas-Ft. Worth communities. I want to thank owner Hymen Childs, VP/ Director of Sales Steve Watkins, Director of Marketing Frances Davis and everyone in our organization for their passion, partnership and support over the past four years and going forward.”
Cook succeeds Bay Area radio and industry legend Michael Erickson, who recently passed away after battling lung cancer for three years.
Before joining service broadcasting in 2010, George was President and Chief Strategist for Geometric Media Consulting, and has held a variety of positions with numerous companies including The Hampton Agency in Atlanta, NAB/NABOB’s Media Sale Institute and PSP Consulting in Washington D.C., and Sheridan Broadcasting in Pittsburgh, PA.
