Normani Releases 2000s-Inspired “Motivation” Video

Normani RCA Records

Normani is still shining as a solo artist, proving that she’s a superstar in the making with her latest video.

The R&B/pop singer dropped her latest track, “Motivation” along with a new, energetic video inspired by the 2000s, the era in which Normani grew up. The video for the song, which was co-written by Normani’s friend and fellow singer, Ariana Grande, begins with a young Normani watching 106 and Park, daydreaming about seeing her own video on the countdown one day. Fast forward to 2019, an adult Normani is finally on the screen herself.

The music video pays tribute to several iconic music videos of the past including Beyoncé‘s “Crazy In Love,” Ciara’s “1, 2 Step,” Omarion‘s “Touch,” and even Kelly Rowland‘s own track “Motivation.” Throughout the video, Normani shows off her impressive dancing and gymnastic skills and even pulls off a gravity breaking basketball trick that has the whole internet talking.

“Motivation” is the singer’s first new song since “Dancing With a Stranger,” her duet with Sam Smith. It’s also her first non-collaboration track since stepping away on her own after Fifth Harmony went on an “indefinite hiatus.” The singer admitted that, while her fans had been begging for new music, she was already finalizing this release. “I recorded this song a while back,” she told Rolling Stone during Lollapalooza weekend. “I shot the video probably a month ago. It’s going to be worth the wait. It’s an upbeat . It’s a feel-good record. I think that everybody will really love it. It was the first opportunity that I had to have fun.”
