Hispanic Radio’s Future: Navigating FCC Changes

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is currently undergoing significant changes that could reshape the landscape of broadcasting, particularly for Hispanic radio. With a comprehensive review of ownership limits and the evolving definition of ‘public interest,’ the upcoming Hispanic Radio Conference 2026, hosted by Radio Ink, aims to address these pressing issues.

Scheduled to take place at the Hilton Phoenix Tapatio Cliffs Resort in Phoenix, the session titled “Industry Outlook: Broadcasting Regulations and Policy Updates Impacting Hispanic Radio” will gather some of the most knowledgeable legal and policy experts in the field. Attendees can expect in-depth discussions on federal and state developments regarding ownership rules, regulatory compliance, public file obligations, and the latest FCC and legislative actions. The focus will be on understanding how these changes will affect various aspects of broadcasting, including formats, political advertising, local news, and community service.

Frank Montero, Managing Partner at Fletcher, Heald & Hildreth, will moderate the panel, which includes prominent figures such as Felipe Chavez, COO of Bustos Media Holdings; Grisella M. Martinez, Founder and Principal of Axis Mundi LLC; and Tregg White, President and CEO of the Arizona Media Association and Arizona Local News Foundation. Montero expressed optimism about the conference, stating that it will provide crucial insights into the ongoing developments in Washington that impact broadcasters.

He noted, “This year’s Hispanic Radio Conference and our policy panel will be one of the best in years. The FCC is embarking on one of the most extensive deregulatory efforts in history, which may lead to unprecedented changes in multiple ownership rules and the overall media landscape.” With an administration that is redefining public interest obligations and political broadcasting, the panel promises to deliver valuable expertise for all attendees.

In addition to regulatory discussions, the conference will also feature sessions focused on how broadcasters are reaching Gen Z audiences through streaming, social media, and podcasts while preserving cultural authenticity. Other panels will delve into innovative community outreach strategies that enhance both listenership and revenue, as well as practical approaches for expanding into mobile and hybrid broadcast-streaming platforms. Registration is currently open at the lowest price of the year, and interested parties are encouraged to secure their spots before the April 4 deadline.
