Hartford-based Funnybone Records is dedicated to fostering a vibrant community of artists both locally and from across the globe. Established in 2016 by founder Dylan Healy, the label emerged from a desire to create a platform for local musicians, addressing a gap in the market observed during Healy’s time as an intern at a well-known label. With a current roster of 25 artists, over half of whom are from the Hartford area, Funnybone Records is committed to supporting artists through various stages of their careers.
Healy manages the label alongside his role as an educator, balancing the demands of planning new releases, coordinating with artists, and overseeing production. The label is also focused on building a strong local presence, with its music available in independent record stores and local businesses, enhancing community engagement with the arts.
The latest release from Funnybone Records is “Melt in Your Hands” by Ayla Loon, an artist known for her experimental and ambient pop sound. This release reflects the label’s commitment to quality production and artistry, showcasing Loon’s diverse musical influences. Notably, Funnybone has previously collaborated with Loon on two other projects, emphasizing the label’s ongoing support for its artists.
Beyond music production, Healy aims to create an inclusive environment that nurtures creativity among artists, particularly those who identify as queer. He envisions Funnybone Records as a connector of creative aspirations and a supportive community for musicians and visual artists alike. With a strong focus on quality over quantity, the label seeks to elevate its artists’ creative practices and provide them with valuable resources and opportunities.
