Final Gasp is dropping their sophomore album ‘New Day Symptoms’ this February, with a lead single that’ll haunt you.

Boston-based band Final Gasp is gearing up to release their second studio album, titled New Day Symptoms, on February 27 via Relapse Records. This latest offering ventures deeper into the genre, combining elements of death rock and hardcore punk to craft a sound that resonates with contemporary themes of anxiety and dread. Theyve already teased the album with the lead single, The Apparition, accompanied by a chilling music video directed by Caleb Gowett and Bill Politis.

Frontman Jake Murphy describes the song as a tale of survival and the harsh realities of life. Its about a captain and his crew on a small boat who are caught in a storm. Only the captain survives, watching his friends get swept away, he explains. The song reflects the bands ability to transform personal fears into anthems that speak to a wider audience.

Following their well-received debut in 2023, Mourning Moon, Final Gasp has expanded their sonic palette with New Day Symptoms. While the previous album was an intense exploration of underground death rock, this upcoming release promises a broader scope, inviting listeners into a more communal experience. Murphy notes that the writing process for this album was more collaborative, allowing each members ideas to influence the final sound.

We realized that we could do so much more, Murphy says, emphasizing the bands evolution. It was exciting because everything was on the table, and we blended ideas really well. The band worked closely with producer Arthur Rizk, further enhancing their creative process as they recorded in a shared space.

Though New Day Symptoms maintains a connection to the bands underground roots, its lyricism takes on a slightly different approach compared to their debut. Murphy aimed for a broader perspective this time around, writing from an outside viewpoint. These songs reflect what could have happened differently, acknowledging that you cant change the past, he elaborates. Its about moving on and embracing your journey.

The album promises to be a significant addition to the rock scene, showcasing the bands growth while maintaining their core intensity. With a string of successful tours alongside diverse bands like Abbath and Gatecreeper, Final Gasp is carving a niche that appeals to a wide array of music fans. This record is about evolution, and well keep writing music that inspires us, Murphy declares. You cant stay in the same place forever.

Final Gasp has also announced a headlining North American tour, which will cover both coasts and parts of the Midwest. With their new album on the horizon, the excitement is palpable among fans and industry insiders alike.
