Delmar Powell has been appointed to be Vice President of A&R for Downtown Music Publishing.
Powell will be responsible for scouting and singing new artist. He will also look to sign new songwriters and producers. In addition, Powell will create opportunities for Downtown clients and copyrights in the global marketplace.
Before Downtown, he worked as Director, A&R Urban at Republic Records. There he signed and developed Marc E. Bassy. Bassy has a hit single, “You & Me” featuring G-Eazy, that became platinum and surpassed over 300 million streams worldwide.
He also worked with many other artists at Republic. Some of the artists he’s worked with are Hailee Steinfeld, Kiana Lede, Natalie LaRose, and Zendaya.
Powell worked and held positions at Atlantic Records, TVT Records, and Jive Records.
I’ve been online looking for instructions all day. This is the ONLY one that makes sense. Thanks
Affordable? Should be titled cities with high rent (lol) I can do a better list than this. There are many great medium sized markets with better rents.
Great story but make it an open call to the black SGL COMMUNITY, if a Youtube show or a production is good enough and has a big enough following, the networks will call YOU. (eg “Insecure”) Leverage is a beast. Black people will turn into dust waiting for acceptance, permission and a green light to do what we are already qualified to do on our own. Stop asking for opportunities. TAKE them and create your own EMPIRE!!!
Great piece Jackie…
This is what I think it is; There are WAY too many people involved in the production and it’s obvious. I agree the show is losing authenticity. There are WAY too many celeb appearances who are not believable and can’t act. It’s starting to get annoying. Jussie’s character is enough for now for non gay viewers but the guy doing Sylvester was WAY over the top and just TOO much this early in the show. Cookie is overused. Viewers need to anticipate her appearances, their needs to be a couple of younger producers on there to bring more balance to the music. Don’t sing entire songs but just a segments, give the audience a reason to want to buy the music. The oldest son is one of the best actors on the show (mental breakdown) but he’s not being used enough. Not enough focus on the main characters and the storyline is getting weak. Finally the name of the new label “Lion Dynasty” is the WORST name for a record label I have ever heard and I work in the music industry. It’s not belevable.
That whack ass line about when the cops raid you your a G when the Feds raid you your a OG. Wtf is blacks folks were Like huh? Who writes that so many other words they could have used they lost all street cred. Should have named the new label something more associated with Cookie but I like the name Kingdom
Whoa! Say it ain’t so!
Simply look at the writers and producers of the show and therein lies the problem of falling ratings.
Kevin, with you being in the business, I respect your opinion.
Sound like u should be a writer Kev.
The most recent show was not that bad, I fell out when the female lawyer found the dead body in her car. In the first season they gave a lot of new actors a shot that was great in comparison to this season.
I agree Dallas….
Naw just a viewer but I would certainly not turn down a writing gig for TV
(lol) Tammi, what about Lucious rapping?
That WOULD be acting. Lol
