Apple Music Connect, initially launched in 2015 as a direct artist-to-fan social platform, has undergone a significant transformation. Originally designed to foster engagement between artists and their audiences, the service was discontinued in 2018 due to a lack of traction and engagement. The platform struggled to compete with established social media channels, leading to its quiet demise. Now, Apple has revived the Apple Music Connect name, but this time it serves a different purpose: a professional toolkit aimed at record labels and distributors.
The newly relaunched Apple Music Connect provides a centralized dashboard for music industry professionals to manage various aspects of a release cycle. This includes tools for pitching new releases to Apple’s editorial team, uploading press materials, and coordinating marketing efforts. The platform’s ‘Pitch’ feature allows teams to submit upcoming releases for editorial and playlist consideration, detailing essential information such as format, artist, mood, genre, and release date. Apple has set guidelines for submissions, requiring a minimum of 10 days’ notice for full consideration and seven days for late submissions.
In addition to the pitching capabilities, Apple Music Connect includes a ‘Promote’ tool that enables teams to create customized social media cards for announcing new releases, pre-adds, and music videos. These promotional assets can be shared across various platforms, including Instagram Stories, X, Snapchat, and Facebook, or sent via email. This feature aims to streamline the promotional process for labels and artists, making it easier to reach fans across multiple channels.
Furthermore, the platform allows artist teams to manage requests for publicity photos directly through Apple Music Connect. This feature ensures that media requests from Apple can be fulfilled efficiently, enhancing the promotional efforts surrounding new releases. As Apple continues to expand its offerings within Apple Music, the introduction of Connect marks a strategic shift towards supporting industry professionals rather than individual artists.
In addition to the relaunch of Apple Music Connect, Apple is reportedly working on new features for the platform, including an AI-powered playlist generator called Playlist Playground, which allows users to create playlists through text prompts. Furthermore, Apple Music is collaborating with TikTok to test features that would enable users to stream full songs directly within the app, enhancing the integration between the two platforms.
