A probe is currently underway in Mount Sterling, Kentucky, following reports from residents in two subdivisions who discovered Ku Klux Klan (KKK) flyers on their vehicles. The Mount Sterling Police Department has initiated an investigation into the matter. According to a press release issued by the department, the flyers were found on vehicles in the Pines on Main and Holly Hills subdivisions during the overnight hours.
Authorities suspect that a hate group from another city may have distributed the flyers.
The police are urging residents of the affected subdivisions to contact the department at (859)-498-8899 if they possess any information or home surveillance footage relevant to the distribution of the flyers.
“We have copies of the flyers, so feel free to throw yours in the trash, where they belong,” said Mount Sterling police. “The M.S.P.D. and City of Mt. Sterling do not tolerate any kind of hate or bigotry in our community.”
Residents living in the Holly Hills subdivision expressed initial skepticism when they discovered the flyers on Monday morning, believing them to be a prank. However, FOX 56 News has verified with a representative from the Trinity White Knights Ku Klux Klan that the flyers are indeed genuine.
The KKK acknowledged their involvement in distributing flyers not only in Mount Sterling but also in Paris, Winchester, and Lexington over the weekend. There were five distinct flyers disseminated, each addressing various topics such as gender identity, religion in schools, and recruitment for the group. FOX 56’s Danielle Miskell is currently in Mount Sterling to conduct interviews with local authorities and residents affected by this incident.
