Spotify Launches AI-Enhanced Interactive Music Platform

Spotify has announced the launch of its AI-driven interactive music platform, designed to enhance user engagement by allowing listeners to generate playlists through conversational prompts. This new feature, known as the ‘Prompted Playlist,’ is currently available to Premium users in select markets. The initiative aims to transition Spotify from a passive listening experience to a more interactive one, leveraging AI technology acquired from the 2022 purchase of the AI voice platform Sonantic.

The platform’s co-CEO highlighted the need for improved monetization opportunities for artists, noting that many creators seek to engage with their audiences through their music. Spotify is committed to working with the music industry to establish a clear rights framework that will facilitate monetization of AI-generated content. The company has partnered with major labels like Sony Music Group, Universal Music Group, and Warner Music Group to develop ‘artist-first’ AI products.

In addition to music, Spotify is expanding its dataset capabilities to include language-to-podcast and language-to-books features. This will enhance personalization for users by creating a comprehensive understanding of individual listening preferences. The platform is also focused on addressing the challenge of labeling AI-generated content, emphasizing that it will not dictate the tools creators can use but will provide a means for them to disclose their methods of creation.

Spotify has also introduced a new audiobooks feature, enabling users to order physical books and sync them with audiobook playback within the app. This initiative aims to streamline the user experience for audiobook consumers. As Spotify continues to innovate in the audio space, competition is heating up, particularly in video podcasting, where platforms like Netflix are ramping up their offerings.

In terms of user growth, Spotify reported a significant increase in its monthly active users, reaching 751 million in 2025, up from 675 million in 2024. Premium subscribers also rose to 290 million, reflecting a robust growth trajectory. Financially, Spotify’s total revenue increased to €17,186 million in 2025, driven primarily by an 11.1% growth in premium revenue, despite a slight decline in ad-supported revenue.
