Sony Music Germany has officially acquired the Munich-based label F.A.M.E. Recordings, a move that strengthens a partnership built over 15 years. The announcement was made on January 14 and includes notable debut albums from artists such as Schandmaul and Pam Pam Ida, alongside works from Feuerschwanz, Werner Schmidbauer, Hannes Ringlstetter, Die Happy, Thomas Godoj, Willy Astor, and Coppelius.

Founded in 2001 by drummer Curt Cress and Tom Bscher, F.A.M.E. Recordings has been exclusively distributed by Sony Music for over a decade and a half before this acquisition. Sony Music plans to oversee the management and marketing of the label’s catalog through its Berlin team.

This acquisition will cease F.A.M.E.’s active operations and new releases, although Antje Zelnitschek and Matej Bellus will continue to lend their expertise to Sony Music on a freelance basis.

Thorsten Sack, Vice President of Catalog at Sony Music Germany, remarked, ‘With the acquisition of F.A.M.E., we are securing a catalog that contains real highlights of German music history. Our goal is to revitalize these recordings with re-editions and special releases that will delight fans.’

The deal not only enhances Sony Music’s presence in regional German music, particularly in areas like Munich and Bavaria, but also aligns with the group’s broader expansion strategy. Recently, Sony Music Publishing acquired Nashvilles Big Yellow Dog Music and a stake in Finland’s Elements Music, showcasing its commitment to growing its catalog across various genres.

This acquisition follows a series of strategic moves by Sony Music Germany, including launching a new electronic music label and revamping its frontline label business.
