Curtis Sliwa Back on the Airwaves After Mayoral Run

Curtis Sliwa Back on the Airwaves After His Mayoral Run Didn’t Pan Out

So Curtis Sliwa is back on the radio. Not surprising honestly… the man has been doing this for 36 years and what else was he gonna do after losing the mayor’s race. He’s filling in for Mark Simone on 710 WOR from December 22nd through January 2nd which is basically the holiday dead zone when nobody’s really paying attention anyway.

curtis sliwaBut here’s the thing about Sliwa… love him or hate him the guy is pure New York. Founded the Guardian Angels back when the subways were basically a war zone. Been on talk radio forever. Says what he thinks even when it pisses people off. That’s rare these days when everybody’s reading from scripts and worried about sponsors.

What I find interesting is how he talked about Simone in the press release. Said he’s “worked with him” and “competed against him” which… if you know New York radio you know there’s probably some stories there that didn’t make the quote. These guys have been circling each other for decades.

Sliwa also mentioned his first radio appearance was on the Arlene Francis show on WOR back in 1971. So he’s coming back to where it started for him. There’s something poetic about that I guess… or maybe iHeart just needed a warm body for two weeks and Curtis was available. Probably both.

The real question is whether this is a tryout for something permanent or just a holiday fill-in gig. Radio stations don’t usually announce guest hosts with full press releases unless they’re testing the waters. Keep an eye on this one.

Anyway if you’re in New York and got nothing better to do over the holidays… 710 WOR or the iHeartRadio app. You know what you’re getting with Curtis. No filter no BS just a guy who’s been around long enough to not give a damn what anybody thinks.
