Podcast Journey: From Dormant Idea to Syndicated Success

This is Pt 1 of a 2 Part story. When you Least Expect it … Expect it! … Several years ago, in 2015, I decided to utilize my broadcast talent to do an evergreen podcast series called “Pennies from Kevin,” It was very early in the podcast game, and advertisers and the industry were not on board.

I could not generate revenue from it, so I put it on the back burner. No sooner than I did that, I got a call from a Chicago radio station saying they wanted to run my “show” Pennies from Kevin. If you even dream about doing syndication, a call from the Number 3 market for a brand new show you are not even promoting is a great start. I used the share code to put the podcast on a least ten platforms and social media from Podbean, and it exploded.

Also, when you get a response like this when you put something out there, that’s a very good sign of a possible business venture. At the time, I didn’t SEE my VISION because it wasn’t clear, and I had a lot on my plate, but life doesn’t work that way.

No matter how well we plan, we can’t map out the results, and I didn’t expect an offer for a syndicated show, just a few dollars in affiliate income for an online segment. Well, I have learned that when you put your talents forth, you never know what the return will be. Also, I have learned to dream BIG! Bigger than you can ever expect in returns.

Finally, know that when you Least Expect it, Expect it! The great thing is that the segments are STILL timely. The next podcast I do in the series will probably be about “Priorities” (lol). I will let you know more about that later. “Keep Your Mouth Shut and Options Open
