Draw inspirations from personal experiences and observations.
Beyonce, who has co-written a lot of her material, has used female empowerment to influence singles such as “Independent Woman” and “Survivor.” She says, “I‘m always thinking about women and what we need to hear. It’s difficult being a woman. It’s so much pressure and we need that support sometimes and we need that escape sometimes.” Her romantic relationship to Jay-Z inspired “Cater 2 U,” which ultimately led to “Single Ladies” after the two officially tied the knot.
I can only hope that the striking parallels between Ms. Knowles’ story and Whitney Houston’s will end soon.
Both women started as startlingly talented, beautiful and sweet. Both had Christian upbringings with roots in gospel. Both uncharacteristally married successful “bad boy” musicians. And, like Ms. Houston, it seems Beyonce’s persona is slowly changing to that of a spoiled diva living in her own universe.
Time will tell if Beyonce writes her own history or follows the path that appears to have been laid out for her.
