Shooter Jennings Honored with Third Grammy Award

Shooter Jennings is now a 3x GRAMMY Award-winner following the 65th Annual GRAMMY Awards, held Sunday, February 5. Jennings received his second career “Best Americana Album” award, honoring for his work as co-producer with Dave Cobb on Brandi Carlile’s chart-topping In These Silent Days.

This marks Jennings’ second consecutive GRAMMY Award for his critically acclaimed work with Carlile and longtime collaborator Cobb following 2018’s By The Way, I Forgive You, a landmark release that earned worldwide accolades and the 2019 GRAMMY Award for “Best Americana Album.” In 2020, Tanya Tucker’s While I’m Livin’ – co-produced by Jennings and Carlile – garnered the country music legend her first-ever GRAMMY Awards for “Best Country Album” and “Best Country Song.”

This weekend also saw Jennings lighting up the City of Angels with Shooter Jennings and the Werewolves of Los Angeles Do Zevon at THE ROXY, a very special homage to the life, legacy, and legend of the late, great Warren Zevon held at the world famous Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood, CA.

The band – which includes multi-instrumentalist Brian Whelan (Dwight Yoakum, Jim Lauderdale) alongside longtime Jennings collaborators drummer Jamie Douglass, bassist Ted Russell Kamp, and guitarist John Schreffler –  made their memorable debut last year at Monterey, CA’s Rebels & Renegades Music Festival, highlighted by a rousing rendition of Zevon’s timeless anthem of desperation, “Lawyers, Guns and Money,” streaming now at YouTube following its exclusive premiere via Rolling Stone.

For nearly two decades, Shooter Jennings has defied expectations while constantly expanding the parameters of country, rock ‘n’ roll, and beyond.

The scion of American music royalty, he has affirmed his own place in histories still to come as a truly limitless artist whose ambitious experimentation spans myriad genres and creative platforms, from releasing eight solo LPs, and countless EPs, and founding his label and multimedia outlet, Black Country Rock, to hosting his “Shooter Jennings’ Electric Rodeo” on Sirius XM’s Outlaw Country channel, and the creation of acclaimed BBS Door games.

Named “Hot New Producer” in Rolling Stone‘s 2020 “Hot List” issue, Jennings honed his production skills helming sessions from such iconic artists as Jamey Johnson, Wanda Jackson, Billy Ray Cyrus, and his mom, Jessi Colter. Jennings has kept up the pace with an acclaimed assortment of further productions, including Jason Boland & The Stragglers’ The Light Saw Me, Hellbound Glory’s The Immortal Hellbound Glory: Nobody Knows You, Kelsey Waldon’s No Regular Dog, Avi Kaplan’s Floating on a Dream, and Ready As I’ll Never Be by Tanya Tucker (co-produced with Brandi Carlile).

What’s more, last year also saw the arrival of Sometimes Y, the debut rock ‘n’ roll collaboration between Jennings and Southern rap superstar Yelawolf.

Hailed by American Songwriter for a genre-defying approach that “ricochets around ‘80s synth and pop with eclipses of metal, country, and a sole orated piece,” the Jennings-produced collection includes the standout singles, “Make Me a Believer“ (praised by Billboard as “a thumpin’ rocker that brings to mind open roads, leather jackets and Southern nights”) and “Rock & Roll Baby,” both joined by official music videos streaming now at YouTube.

Jennings – who made history at last year’s BeachLife Ranch in Redondo Beach, CA by curating his first-ever all-star tribute to his legendary father, Waylon Jennings – is currently teaming with Yelawolf for a limited series of Sometimes Y live performances, including Columbus, OH’s Sonic Temple Arts & Music Festival (May 27), Taylorville, IL’s Tailgates N’ Tallboys (July 28), and Floyd, VA’s Floyd Fest (July 29).
