Opening June 21, “STAG: The Illicit Origins of Pornographic Film” Sheds Light on History of Adult Entertainment Industry

Pornhub, the premier online destination for adult entertainment, today announced the launch of its upcoming exhibition with the Museum of Sex in New York City called “STAG: The Illicit Origins of Pornographic Film.” The exhibit will feature films that demonstrate the major aesthetic and thematic trends that shaped the early history of the illicit film industry. The exhibit will be open to the public beginning on June 21 and will run through October 21.

Set in a vintage theatre within the museum, the exhibit will feature “stags” which are short, black and white films produced in secrecy in the early 1900 through the 1960s which often interlaced sex with humor and narrative plots for the sake of satire and social commentary. Exclusively curated by the Museum of Sex, the films shown in the exhibit will offer insight into the era’s construction and portrayal of male and female sexualities.

“We’re proud to partner with the Museum of Sex in the presentation of ‘Stag: The Illicit Origins of Pornographic Film,'” said Corey Price, Vice President of Pornhub. “We wanted to celebrate the earliest depictions of sex on film and pay homage to the professional filmmakers and amateur producers responsible for this unprecedented time in adult entertainment.”

This is Pornhub’s latest exhibit in New York City and the company’s second partnership with the Museum of Sex. In 2017, the company debuted a limited run, experiential pop-up shop in the SoHo neighborhood of Manhattan and teamed with the Museum of Sex to sell various items from its gift shop, including Taschen books, specialty aphrodisiac apothecary herbs and sex games.
