Rock Nashville: City’s Largest Rehearsal Facility

Nashville’s music scene just leveled up with Rock Nashville’s massive new rehearsal campus. This place is set to become the go-to hub for touring acts.

Nashville has officially unveiled its largest rehearsal facility, Rock Nashville, aiming to establish the city as the premier destination for live music and touring. Spanning 55 acres in Whites Creek, this campus has been designed to accommodate even the most elaborate productions, like Taylor Swift’s monumental “Eras Tour” which requires a high level of organization, extensive stage setups, and rigorous practice schedules.

The campus officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring celebratory fire cannons, underscoring its ambitious vision. “Nashville is evolving from just being the home of country music to becoming a global center for live entertainment,” remarked Rock Nashville CEO Andrea Shirk. The facility offers an impressive 610,000 square feet of space, including 375,000 square feet dedicated to studios—perfect for both local acts and major arena-level shows.

This new addition could redefine the rehearsal landscape in Nashville, showcasing how one key player can expand to meet growing demands. The city already boasted a prominent rehearsal space, Soundcheck, founded by Glenn Frey of The Eagles back in 1993. It quickly became a favorite among artists, including Kenny Chesney and Vince Gill, and is renowned for accommodating major talent, as noted by Paul McCartney’s love for Nashville’s rehearsal scene.

Soundcheck became the largest rehearsal facility in the Southeast, attracting artists like Hozier, who spent significant time there preparing for tours. However, competition grew fierce with the emergence of Rock Lititz, located in Lititz, Pennsylvania, which offers a colossal 150-acre space tailored to the needs of touring acts with advanced technical capabilities.

Challenges arose when Oracle purchased the land where Soundcheck had been leasing, forcing owner Ben Jumper to vacate. Jumper, who attended the opening of Rock Nashville, expressed his disappointment but remained hopeful about potential collaborations. His optimism led to a partnership with Rock Lititz, ultimately resulting in the creation of Rock Nashville.

Now, Rock Nashville combines the best of both worlds, providing a comprehensive setup for touring artists. The campus features 47 offices, and major brands like Yamaha, JBL, and Shure have established their presence there, ensuring that every need of a touring band is met—including even a barbershop.

Jumper emphasized that Rock Nashville is set to attract talent from around the world, a goal that he feels is now more attainable. His daughter, Kindal Jumper, who now manages Soundcheck, had the honor of cutting the ribbon at the opening ceremony.

As Nashville continues to build its reputation as a key player in live music, the emergence of Rock Nashville contributes to a thriving ecosystem that supports physical music production. The relocation of Soundcheck also opened doors for new businesses, including JPACK, a company specializing in music storage, which is now situated closer to Music Row. Co-owner Andy Sheridan noted the convenience this provides for musicians constantly on the move in the city.

Even as the industry shifts to more digital formats, the demand for physical rehearsal spaces remains strong. The rehearsal industry is becoming a vital component of Nashville’s economy, with fees for premium studio spaces soaring to $12,000 per day. Meanwhile, newer facilities like JPACK offer more affordable options for artists.

In a city where location and accessibility are vital for touring acts, investments in infrastructure continue to grow. Last year, AEG launched its own venue, The Pinnacle, and Live Nation announced plans for a new venue, The Truth, further underscoring Nashville’s commitment to supporting live music.

As Sheridan pointed out, top-tier acts like Coldplay can’t rely on makeshift spaces; they need facilities that meet their professional standards. Rock Nashville is poised to meet that demand and more.
