The City of Huntsville has initiated a partnership with Sound Diplomacy to conduct a comprehensive 12-week study aimed at evaluating the economic impact of its evolving music scene. This initiative seeks to update a previous municipal music audit from 2018, which played a crucial role in establishing the Huntsville Music Office and guided strategic decisions regarding venues, programming, and industry collaborations.
The updated study will take into account significant developments in Huntsville’s music landscape since the initial audit, including the opening of The Orion Amphitheater, the introduction of large-scale festivals such as South Star, and the expansion of programming at the Von Braun Center. Additionally, it will consider the growth of independent venues and local artists, providing a holistic view of the music sector’s contributions to the local economy.
According to the terms of the agreement, Sound Diplomacy is expected to deliver several key components, including a comprehensive database and interactive map of Huntsville’s music ecosystem, a high-level analysis of growth and changes since 2018, and case studies that focus on notable events and venues. The study will culminate in an updated economic impact assessment that measures the direct, indirect, and induced economic contributions of the music sector to the city.
