The City of Huntsville has initiated a new study aimed at evaluating the economic impact and growth of its music industry, reinforcing its status as a music destination. This study, commissioned to Sound Diplomacy, will span 12 weeks and is intended to provide a thorough analysis of the city’s music ecosystem and its broader economic implications.
This latest assessment follows an initial music audit conducted in 2018, also by Sound Diplomacy, which established a data-driven framework that led to the formation of the Huntsville Music Office. The previous audit informed key policy decisions and investments in music-related infrastructure and programming.
Since the 2018 audit, Huntsville’s music scene has experienced substantial growth, marked by the opening of The Orion Amphitheater and the introduction of significant festivals like South Star. Additionally, the Von Braun Center has expanded its programming, and there has been a noticeable increase in independent venues and artists, contributing to the city’s vibrant music landscape.
The current study will generate a comprehensive database and interactive map of Huntsville’s music ecosystem, alongside a high-level analysis of changes since 2018. It will include case studies on major local events and venues, as well as an updated economic impact assessment that will quantify the contributions of the music sector to jobs, tourism, and overall quality of life in the city.
Ultimately, this study is poised to influence the next phase of Huntsville’s music strategy, as the city aims to enhance its position as both a regional and national hub for music.
