Keisha Campbell Joins Greater Baltimore Leadership Cohort

Here at the National Treasure, cultivating a diverse corps of next gen leaders who endeavor to impact the professional and civil service arenas is in our DNA. Morgan’s decades-long track record for producing alumni who ascend to the higher echelons of their career can also be evidenced in the leadership found within the ranks of the university’s administrative staff. As a university core value, leadership is a call to action that’s embraced and put in to practice throughout Morgan’s campus community. Keisha Campbell, the University Registrar is a shining example of this shared credo, embodying Morgan excellence and leadership. Recognized for these qualities, Campbell’s ethic has caught the attention of the Greater Baltimore Committee (GBC), one of the region’s long standing organizations for business and civic leaders.

Recently, Keisha Campbell was selected to participate in the third cohort of the GBC’s “Next Up” program, a professional development initiative for “rising stars” who are on the fast track for executive or upper management-level positions. Participants are nominated by their organization and are selected following a competitive evaluation of candidates. The highly sought-after program is limited to 25 mid-career professionals from member organizations who have demonstrated leadership within their respective organization as well as their communities.

“I am really thrilled to be part of the GBC’s third cohort of their Next Up program,” said Campbell. “ not all people from the same industry or area and that gives a different perspective which is always important. Everything kind of meets at a crossroads in some way, shape or form, whether that’s business or higher education and you’re able to make meaningful relationships.”

The “Next Up” program centers on expanding the professional and personal networks and training of its cohorts. Campbell will participate in a variety of enrichment activities and development exercises including seminar-style talks with regional business, civic and government leaders; in-depth discussions with c-suite decision makers on issues and topics relative to today’s business community; and networking opportunities.

Expounding on the “Next Up” opportunity, Campbell shared, “Being able to be a thought-partner with people who have completely different responsibilities and completely different drives…and see what that looks like and how I can take that back to my space and use it in a way that’s really effective.”

Since joining MSU’s Office of the Registrar in 2015, Campbell has been an integral player in the matriculation of many Morgan students. For Campbell, her role as University Registrar is more than just records and registration, it’s about connecting the dots beyond the transcripts and facilitating interdisciplinary pathways for student success. On the surface, programs like “Next Up” are singularly focused on the development of its chosen cohorts, however, Campbell sees a greater opportunity to amplify what ’s attained and share within her own network. She knows that her participation in “Next Up” will also unearth great benefits to the university and more importantly Morgan students.

“For me it’s how are we thinking strategically about using those connections to really advance what we already do at Morgan, which is preparing students, providing them with a variety of experiences and placing them on a path to become future leaders,” added Campbell.

Campbell’s passion for helping young people and enhancing their access to education extends beyond Morgan’s campus. The co-founder and an executive board member of B More Global, Campbell is intimately involved in raising scholarship funds to send underrepresented Baltimore students on educational excursions abroad through the nonprofit.

Congratulations Keisha Campbell for being named to GBC’s 2020 Next Up Cohort!
