A shooting left multiple people injured in an altercation at a south Florida restaurant. Witnesses said it happened while making a rap video.

Reporters were told by several witnesses that French Montana, 38, was in the video. He was not injured. His publicist didn’t respond to emails seeking comment, and police did not confirm that he was there.

Although it was not immediately clear how many people were injured by the gunfire at 8 p.m. on Thursday, the Miami Herald quoted a source who said that as many as 10 people were hurt in the shooting near The Licking, a Miami Gardens soul food restaurant, in a Miami Gardens strip-mall.

According to Miami Gardens Police Chief Delma Norel-Pratt, investigators were investigating reports that the restaurant was filming a music video.

Noel-Pratt stated that “we believe it’s an isolated incident.”

Diana Gourgue, spokesperson for Miami Gardens Police, told reporters couldn’t confirm reports that 10 people were hurt and that “right now it was just multiple victims that sustained injuries.”

She stated that the condition of the hurt was not known, but that there were no fatalities.

She said that a large crowd was gathered in front of the restaurant during the shooting.

Repeated calls to the police department Friday for an update were not returned. Friday’s worker at the restaurant said that no one was available for discussion about the shooting. The sign posted on the door says “No firearms or weapon allowed on this property.”

CED Mogul, a Miami rapper, said that the shooting took place after someone stole their Rolex watch. CED Mogul said that the video was meant to be shot at nearby KFC, but was moved following an altercation. According to Chief Noel-Pratt, police chief, the video’s producers hadn’t received the permits.

Two gunmen opened fire in front of a New York City recording station in 2003, shooting French Montana in the head. The gunmen accidentally shot the other man, killing him.

French Montana was born in Morocco. His real name is Karim Kharbouch. He is most well-known for his 2017 album, “Jungle Rules”, and the lead single, “Unforgettable,” which reached the Top 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

The Miami Gardens strip mall is located on a major six-lane highway. It is just 2 miles from Hard Rock Stadium, which is home to six Super Bowls and the Miami Grand Prix Formula 1 race. According to FBI statistics, the city with 115,000 inhabitants has the highest homicide rate in the country, with one violent death per 4,400 residents in 2019.

The shop owner of the strip mall claimed that he heard loud noises while working in his back room late Thursday. His partner believed it was a car breaking down, while he thought it was gunfire. Five minutes later, paramedics and police arrived to investigate the scene.

The shop owner stated that most of the shootings in the area are personal and not random. Fearing retribution, he requested that his name not used. “Most people are motivated by greed or money.”
