Bryan-Michael Cox is a Grammy Award-winning songwriter and record producer whose work has helped shape contemporary R&B and pop music for more than two decades. A longtime SESAC affiliate, Cox has maintained a celebrated relationship with the organization throughout his career, earning SESAC Songwriter of the Year honors six times and receiving the SESAC Icon Award in 2022.

“Bryan’s passion for music runs deep, and it’s that love that’s fueled his success for decades,” said Mario Prins, SVP, Head of LA Creative at SESAC. “He’s never allowed himself to get too comfortable, and that hunger continues to shape his work. SESAC is honored to have been his sole PRO throughout his 27-plus-year career.”
Cox is widely regarded as one of contemporary R&B’s most successful and influential songwriters and producers. His catalog includes work tied to more than 100 million album sales and dozens of No. 1 records. In 2025, Billboard ranked him among its Top Producers of the 21st Century, placing him at No. 25 on the Hot 100 producers list and No. 2 on its Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs producers list.
His credits include era-defining albums and singles for artists such as Usher, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Jagged Edge, Toni Braxton, Destiny’s Child, and others. Cox’s work helped anchor landmark projects including Usher’s Confessions, Mariah Carey’s The Emancipation of Mimi, and Mary J. Blige’s The Breakthrough. His contributions to songs such as “Confessions Part II” and “Be Without You” remain central to the sound and emotional language of modern R&B.
Beyond commercial success, Cox’s work is recognized for its melodic strength, emotional clarity, and consistency across eras. His songs have become staples of R&B radio, streaming playlists, and live performance, reflecting a career built on craft, collaboration, and longevity.
Cox’s latest creative venture continues that legacy. He and longtime collaborator Johntá Austin recently launched Sessions, a podcast designed as a gathering place for the architects of modern music. The show gives listeners access to the stories, creative processes, and behind-the-scenes perspectives of the writers, producers, and executives whose work continues to shape R&B and popular music culture. Sessions is available on YouTube and major podcast platforms.
